Cover Story
Along with the advances in nanoscience and nanotechnology, high-end innovations and inventions have been sparked, benefitting almost every aspect of human lives and industries. Laser ablation in liquids (LAL), a laser-based cutting-edge nanotechnology whose history can trace back to 1983, is attracting worldwide attention due to its simple implementation and high flexibility in synthesizing multi-scale, component-adjustable, and highly active nanomaterials. In the review article, Zhang et al. introduce the productions of various nanoproducts of carbides, sulfides, oxides, metals, and their composites via LAL, with focus on chemical reactions, nucleation/growth processes and phase transition behaviors, which may shed light on a better regulation of LAL-synthesized nanomaterials. This cover illustrates the scenario for diverse nanomaterial synthesis by using LAL of 13 types of pure transition metals, including Mg, Ti, Mn, Fe, Ni, Co, Cu, Zn, Ru, Rh, Pd, Pt and Al (See the article (No. 274203) by DongShi Zhang et al.).
